OUR TRIP TO INDIA

OUR TRIP TO INDIA

Travel is part of our DNA, not only is it a constant source of inspiration for how we work creatively, it’s a key part of the whole production process. We travel to India at least twice a year and, more often than not, we are based in Delhi; the hub and nucleus of where we connect with the lovely, small units of people who transform our ideas and designs into reality.

It’s an organic process where new designs and concepts are always evolving. But, in truth, it’s only when we visit our units and really work closely with the team that we are able to bring these ideas to life.

We love working with the beautiful recycled vintage saris and silk/cotton kantha panels from West Bengal, and this is ultimately a big part of our USP.

Finding the best prints and colours is not always easy! I take at least a day out of my time to literally sit and go through hundreds of pieces to find the most relevant and beautiful ones; it’s a big job! Our job is then to decide how we can convert and rejuvenate them into beautiful one-off crafted pieces absolutely loaded with embroidery.

And now, for our new Christmas collection, we have added beads and sequins by hand to enhance the festive feel and make sure they are truly unique.

During my trip I was privileged enough to be treated to some traditional Henna tattoos. I really love how the Indian ladies prepare for big ceremonies by having their hands and feet totally covered with intricate henna tattoo designs; it’s a real skill and literally done out on the street at all the local markets.

I loved having mine done, it felt and looked like a stunning work of art and it was a real show stopper! Here I am in one of our best-selling sari long line shirts having mine done….
